It was another red letter day at the Walajapet Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam on April 15, 2013. Mupperum Vizha at Sri Danvantri Peedam

There is a great buzz at the Walajapet Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam. The devotional year 2012-2013 has been packed with activities for the Peedam, founded by Kayilai Gnanaguru Dri Sri Muralidhara Swamigal. In his infinite wisdom, the Swamigal charted out a calendar of yagams for 365 days, called ’365 days, 365 yagams’. There was a special yagna on each day of these 365 days apart from the regular homams that are performed by the Peedam. Each day’s homam was different from the rest of the days. The calendar book that was brought out by the Swamigal for the special year mentioned the name of the yagam, the deity being honoured, the dhiraviyams that would be used for the yagam, the flower and fruit that would be used for the pooja and even the special neivedhyam that would be on offer. The best part was that the benefits of doing the yagam or participating in a particular yagna was mentioned clearly in the book. Not a day in the calendar was missed during the 365 days that the homams were performed at the Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam. There was massive participation from the followers of the Swamigal and visitors who throng the Peedam on all days of the year. The concluding day of this 365 days yagam falls on Chitra Pournami day – April 25, 2013. There would be special homams and prayers on the concluding day that is being celebrated as Mupperum Vizha.

The 4-foot Bhairavar idol is one-of-its-kind, sculpted with Ashta Bhairavars on the pedestal (Asithanga Bhairavar, Ruru Bhairavar, Chanda Bhairavar, Krodhana Bhairavar, Unmaththa Bhairavar, Kabaala Bhairavar, Beeshna Bhairavar, Samhara Bhairavar). Lord Bhairavar is considered an incarnation of Lord Shiva and the Devata of Lord Rahu. He appears in a standing position with four hands. His weapons are drum, pasam, trine and skull. He is depicted as ornamented with a range of twisted serpents which serve as earrings, bracelets, anklets and sacred thread. He wears a tiger skin and a ritual apron composed of human bones. Bhairava has a dog as his divine vehicle. He also carries the amputated head of Brahma. Each of the eight Bhairavas are different in appearance, have different weapons, different vahanas and they bless their devotees with eight types of wealth representing ashta Lakshmis. It is generally believed that worshipping Bhairavar gives prosperity, success and good progeny, prevents premature death and solution to debts and liabilities, says the Swamigal. The Peedam founder informed the large number of devotees who participated in the homam that they would land lucrative jobs and some may even travel abroad for a career after having participated in the homam. He also pointed out that lighting a lamp in a pumpkin was considered auspicious for Bhairavar.

Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar thrills Dharmapuri public

Here is the latest about the Sri Koormavathara Lakshmi Narasimhar idol’s karikola procession in the state of Tamil Nadu. The Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar idol is to be installed as the 65th deity at the Walajapet Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam on Tamil New Year’s Day. As has been the practice with Peedam founder, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, the idol is taken on karikola procession to various states. In Tamil Nadu, the procession began from Walajapet and reached Dharmapuri on March 1. The deity, installed majestically in a tempo van, went around the important streets of Dharmapuri and allowed even people who will not be able to make a trip to Walajapet for darshan to have free darshan from their own houses. Also, they got a chance to perform arathi and pooja for the deity which they could not even dream of in their lifetime. The thrilled people of Dharmapuri, their hearts filled with contentment, thanked the benevolence of the Swamigal in giving them this wonderful chance to pray to Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar the way they had never imagined was possible.

Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar karikolam begins

It was hard to say who was happier: Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam founder, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal or Gudiyattam taluk Mahadeva Malai Sadhu Mahananda Siddhar when the Sri Koormavadhara Lakshmi Narasimhar idol reached his presence on Saturday, February 23, 2013, as part of the karikolam procession. “We have a good rapport and I wanted to be there in Mahadeva Malai when the Siddhar Swamigal lays his eyes on Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar,” said Sri Muralidhara Swamigal with a smile. The Sadhu was overjoyed at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar idol reaching his place and was all smiles when he performed arathi for the deity. Sri Muralidhara Swamigal informed that about 200 children were present at Mahadeva Malai (near Katpadi) when the deity’s vehicle was parked there. He had another reason to be overjoyed when he learnt that the Sadhu’s devotees from London, including Sivakumar Swamigal, had the darshan. According to Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar’s karikolam went through Latheri, the native place of Chandrasekar Mudaliar’s family that can be counted among the extended Danvantri family, Panamadangi, Theerthanpattarai Katpadi Raghavendra temple, and the residences of advocate, Mr Suresh, and ‘Appu Pal’ dairy owner, Mr Balaji.

Danvantri Yoga Centre inauguration Feb 10

The Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam was founded by Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal with only one thought on his mind: To rid this world of health problems. This he achieved admirably by installing a 6-foot idol of Sri Danvantri Bhagwan, the God of Medicine, the Family Doctor of Sri Mahavishnu himself. But the Swamigal never rests on his oars. His mind is always working on ways to improve his service to society. So, here comes his next venture: He is starting a Yoga research and training centre, called Sri Danvantri Yoga Centre, on the premises of the Peedam. The inauguration is slated for Sunday, February 10, 2013 between 10 a.m. and 12 Noon at the Kriya Yogi Avatar Baba Dhyana Mandapam which was recently renovated and added around the sanctum sanctorum of Baba. Full Moon day is special day at Sri DAP

It was a very busy day – but, which day isn’t? – at the Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam in Walajapet on January 26, 2013. A special 27 Nakshatra Parihara homam and Rahu-Kethu homam were performed on Saturday, January 26, at the Peedam with the blessings of Peedam founder, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, at 10 a.m. In the evening, annabhishekam was performed for Rahu-Kethu and abhishekam for the 468 Siddhars celebrated in the form of Siva Lingams at the Peedam. Visitors to the Peedam got the enviable opportunity of doing pooja for all the Lingams in the waning light and participating in the arathi. Probably one-of-its-kind, an idol of Bharatha Matha has been installed in the Peedam on the directions of Swamigal, who sees Mother India as the personification of Goddess Shakthi. So, on January 26, India’s Republic Day, a special homam was performed for Bharatha Matha, followed by abhishekam, alankaram – yes, she was draped in a Tricolour – and arathi. Those who visited the Peedam on that day were touched by Swamigal’s patriotism.

Remembering Vallalar on Thai Poosam day

‘Kadai Virithum Porul Kolvor Illai’ said a saintly Ramalinga Adigalar, popularly called Vallalar for his munificence, and went and locked himself inside a room in Siddhi Valagam, Mettukuppam, on the Thai Poosam day in 1874. That was the last anybody saw of him. This day – Thai Poosam – is observed with great piety by his followers even now and the numbers are swelling in Vadalur to have jothi darshan on this special occasion. The crowds were also swelling at the Walajapet Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam on January 27, 2013, which happened to be Thai Poosam, the day Vallalar attained mukti. With the blessings of Peedam founder, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, there was a special homam at guru Ramalinga Adigalar’s shrine in the Peedam in the presence of the family of late Prof T Ramalingam, an ardent follower from Chennai. The special abhishekam was followed by special arathi for the saint in white robes. The last Sunday of every month at the Peedam is dedicated to unmarried girls looking for a suitable groom and special homams are performed on that day. On January 27, a number of young brides-to-be participated in the homam and then had a special darshan of Vallalar. “I wanted the girls to get the full blessings of guru Ramalinga Adigalar and your father Ramalingam,” said the Swamigal to the grateful family of the late professor. The fire lit by Vallalar in the kitchen at Vadalur is still burning, assuaging the hunger pangs of his devotees. Likewise, annadhanam was offered at the Peedam on this special occasion. Vallalar’s staple diet, kanji, was served as prasadam to the visitors of the Peedam on January 27 apart from the regular annadhanam on the premises.

R-Day was special at Sri Danvantri Peedam

Republic Day for a regular citizen of the country is pinning a flag on your chest, participating in a flag hoisting ceremony and then being given sweets/chocolates. But it went beyond that at the Walajapet Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam where Peedam founder, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, has installed an idol of Bharatha Matha, and performs regular poojas. On January 26, 2013, Swamigal proudly hoisted the flag in the morning and saluted it. He went further and did arathi for the flag, proving his intense patriotism. Next came abhishekam and arathi for Bharatha Matha in which all the visitors participated. Bharatha Matha was adorned with the national flag and was a feast to everybody’s eyes.

Bharatha Matha pooja on Republic Day

It is a blessing to be born in a country that gives form to the idea and worships Mother India. Bharathiyar sang songs on Bharatha Matha and Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam founder, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, went one step further and established a shrine for Bharatha Matha. The idea is that he has personified Mother India and given her a niche in the Peedam to be worshipped along with the 63 other deities in the complex. Bharatha Matha is given pride of place on two important days in the calendar of the country – August 15, Independence Day, and January 26, Republic Day. With Republic Day falling on Friday, January 26, 2013 there would be special abhishekam, homam and pooja for Bharatha Matha at the Peedam, says the Swamigal. Now, she wants to spread awareness about the goodness of naturopathy, that includes many allied subjects, among the people and what better place to do it than the Peedam, asks the Swamigal. According to Peedam founder, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, the healers have shown interest in the concept of a healing centre that does research on Vedanta Lifeology also. They would be apprised of the various deities in the Peedam, the research in the Vedanta Lifeology Centre and the Herbal Garden. They will study the homams that are being performed in the yagna bhoomi that the Peedam is and heal the staff during their sojourn. After duly visiting the deities and understanding the research being performed by the Peedam, Giacomini and Jordan would suggest corrections and remedies that the Peedam should follow to enrich its contribution to society. Since the Danvantri Naturopathy and Yoga Research Centre and Yoga Training Centre are to be opened in the Peedam shortly, the Swamigal would hold discussions with the couple on these aspects also. The healers, whose 21-year-old daughter is doing research on Advaita philosophy, would be accompanied by Aditi Ashram founder Hamsananda Swamigal. The Peedam founder and staff are excited about the visit of the Italian couple as they are sure to enrich the ongoing research into the art of healing.

Homam in honour of Sri Shiva

The Walajapet Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam is known popularly as yagna bhoomi. That is because there is nithya homam happening on the premises. Apart from the regular homams, the Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam founder, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, has ordained the conduct of a special homam on every one of the 365 days. It has panned out beautifully and has been drawing his followers and disciples by the droves to the Peedam. The homams, having been performed without a break for almost 210 days as on November 26, 2012, honour and propitiate some known and many unknown deities. People – without discrimination on the basis of caste or creed or even sex - who have been participating in the homams have given positive feedback to the Swamigal and the Peedam. According to the Vedanta Lifeology Research Centre, many miracles have taken place in the life of those who participated in the various homams till now. With five more months to go for the conclusion of the year-long homams, the Swamigal extends a warm welcome to his followers, devotees and the public to participate in the remaining homams and reap rich benefits.

Danvantri Peedam to get Sri Bala Ranganathar idol

The Walajapet Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam is getting another idol – not just another idol, but that of a reclining Sri Ranganathar. With the blessings of the Peedam’s founder, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, ‘Bala Ranganathar’, as he will be known, will be consecrated in the Peedam on the auspicious day of December 9, 2012. The idol, 1 ¾ feet high and 2 feet long, is depicted as the Perumal lying on a 7-headed serpent. From his navel rises Brahma and one can find at his feet Sridevi and Bhoodevi. The idol was made at the Mahabalipuram Prakash Sirpa Kalai Koodam by Loganathan Sthapathi, who has earlier done a lot of work for the Peedam, and comes on the suggestion of Sugar nadi jothidam. The Swamigal informs that Sri Srinivasa Raghavan, belonging to Narasingarayanpettai, near Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, would be the officiating priest at the consecration of the idol which will be done in the presence of Bangalore Mr V Gopalakrishna Chettiar and Mr Radheshyam. Before the installation of the idol, mantras written by the Swamigal’s followers and disciples would be buried in a pit – mandira pradishtai – that is to take place on the 8th anniversary of the Peedam’s consecration, November 28, 2012, and Sri Bala Ranganathar would be installed over the mantras.

Homam for unmarried girls at Danvantri Peedam

There are many unmarried girls and single women who make a beeline to the Walajapet Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam for the Swayamvara Kala Parvathy homam – that is performed on the last Sunday of every month – hoping for a suitable groom/husband in life. This month – November – it is being performed on November 25, says Peedam founder, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal. The Swamigal, with whose blessings this homam for unmarried girls and single women wanting remarriage is being performed at the Peedam, said women who have all kinds of doshams would benefit from this homam. Those who have sarpa dosham, pitru dosham (forefathers’ curse) would find them dissipate and the homam would enable them to marry at the earliest to a suitable groom. The Swamigal advises girls who come for the homam to bring a fresh set of clothes as the water from the kalasam that is separately set up for each person would be used to perform abhishekam for the supplicant. This is like a cleansing ritual, says the Swamigal. The Peedam has received positive response from girls who have found suitable match after participating in the homam and this has enriched the research by the Vedanta Lifeology Research Centre.

The temple, also known as Sulur Tirupati, belongs to the RVS family that runs many educational institutions in Coimbatore under the able guidance of its chairman, Mr K V Kuppuswamy. With the RVS family making all the arrangements, Walajapet Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam founder, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal helped perform the homams. Vaasthu homam performed at Sri DAP

Vaasthu Bhagwan, depicted in a lying posture and measuring about 6 feet in diameter, cannot be found anywhere else but at the Walajapet Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam. Peedam founder, Kayilai Gnanaguru Dr Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, describes the idol as being one of its kind also for the elaborate workmanship that has gone into its creation. It is believed that Easwaran with Ganga is found near Vaasthu Bhagwan’s head, Sri Brahma in the middle – his stomach area – and his feet represent Sri Vishnu. Panchabhoothams are found around him as also Ashtadik Balakas in the form of eight Lingams. A special Vaastu Bhagwan homam is performed at the Peedam on Vaasthu days as well as valar pirai panchami which fell on Friday, November 23, 2012. Many people participated in the homam and the special poojas. The Swamigal says that those who have vaasthu problems in their houses, shops or office buildings and realtors getting into big business would all benefit from the poojas. At the end of the pooja, special soil (vaasthu mun), brick that has been part of the pooja, vaasthu yantra, machendram, navaratna stones, panchaloha chittu were given away as prasadam. Those who were not able to participate in the homam, can still get this prasadam at the Peedam and live a life of fulfilment and joy, informs the Swamigal.
